Dorell Palace and Xlejli Tower Overview in Gudja, Malta


The village has a palace called Palazzo Bettina and it is believed that Napoleon lived there during his short stay in Malta, when Malta was being ruled by the French. 

Ignatius Francesco Moscati Falsoni Navarra Count of Bahrija built this house for his family in 1720. After the Count of Bahrija left Gudja, Pietro Paolo Dorell Falzon bought the premises at Gudja to endow his daughter Bettina who married to Marquis Diego Muscati in 1760. Bettina applied the artistic knowledge she acquired in Naples to decorate his residence at Gudja.
