Gozo showcased as a quality tourism destination at Berlin Fair
At the world’s largest tourism fair, held in Berlin, Gozo was showcased as a distinct tourist destination separate from Malta. This year’s edition featured participation from 190 countries, highlighting global travel opportunities.
The presentation on Gozo emphasized the island’s rich historical heritage, including the Citadel, the Ġgantija Temples, and other notable sites such as the Salt Pans, the Basilica of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, and its many historic churches. The cultural aspect of Gozo was also highlighted, particularly its renowned opera season in Victoria.
Gozo’s stunning beaches were another focal point, with special mention of locations featured in world-famous productions such as Game of Thrones and By the Sea, as well as iconic spots like Ramla l-Ħamra and Calypso’s Bay.
MTA Chief Executive Carlo Micallef emphasized the authority’s commitment to sustainable and high-value tourism:
“We are working to continue growing tourism, as well as the expenditure that tourists contribute to our country. In this edition, we focused on promoting the island of Gozo as a distinct destination for quality tourism that respects the environment.”
The Gozitan Tourism Association echoed this vision. Chief Executive Joe Muscat highlighted the success of their promotional efforts:
“Apart from presenting the Gozitan tourism product, we also featured a section where Heritage Malta members offered a taste of Gozitan gastronomy. This was very well received by the journalists in attendance.”
Gozo’s appeal continues to grow, with more than two million tourists visiting Gozo and Comino in 2024 for a day or longer—an 18% increase compared to the previous year. The number of visitors staying in Gozo for more than one day also saw a significant rise.
