The JP2 Cultural Foundation is hosting the Abbey School Girls Band from the UK. The band holds 33 young musicians. They are visiting Malta where they will give concerts Valletta, Gozo and Marsaxlokk. The Abbey School is an all-girls school based in Reading in England approximately 50km west of London. The school’s music department is vibrant with many girls studying music academically as well as taking lessons in singing, piano, strings, woodwind and brass. Girls are encouraged to take part in ensembles such as choir, concert band and orchestra. Young musicians from the school have previously visited Paris and the island of Jersey. Head of Department, Helen Bilkey said ‘We are very excited to visit Malta, to share our music and to embrace Malta’s culture, history and heritage’.
