Originating in the early sixties in the City of Bradford, England, school friends Ron Kelly, Chris Norman, Alan Silson and Terry Uttley formed their first line up. After several recording contracts and name changes the name “Smokie” was decided upon. This signalled a period of worldwide success for the band whose records have today sold in excess of 30 million. As Chris Norman embarked on a successful solo career, Smokie’s two original members were joined by lead singer Alan Barton, whose voice, energy and drive for success re-established the name of “Smokie” as a worldwide touring and recording band.
And it is Alan’s own son, Dean who now fronts “Spirit of Smokie”, after a highly success memorial concert in March 2008. Dean’s undeniable “Smokie” voice and on-stage charisma completed what is now an established world class band.
